Through cloud data to obtain three-dimensional model of the building boundary points, for reverse automatically build the model can meet people’s needs of a building or street and other aspects of reproduction and ranging. Especially in recent years, laser technology keep developing, people can obtain three-dimensional model’s cloud data by car laser scanners fast and accurate. This paper did some research work directing at how to use the point cloud data to automatically build three-dimensional model.After analyzing the existing point cloud data processing method, this paper proposed a three-dimensional model automatically building method based on point cloud data and implementing this method. First of all, put forward a way of coordinating correct, removing the noise points and abnormal points, data filter classification and export under TerraSolid. Secondly, we analysis the triangular mesh generation method, point by point insertion method and divide and conquer, and design a comprehensive algorithm which is good at both the time complexity and storage consumption. We also give the key algorithm implementation such as convex polygon by point insertion algorithm, inter-regional top line bottom line algorithm and confirm merging algorithm convex polygons. At last, we give the design and implementation of surface classification based on the normal vector which can extract the model frame and store frame for the same point set.Contents of this paper can improve the problem of effectively measuring the distance between the device and buildings and the problem of determination of position in three-dimensional substation system virtualization under power transmission and transformation equipment state visualization intelligent management platform for Hebei electric power company. Therefore, this article has some practical significance and application value.
