Time synchronization is a key technology in Wireless Sensor Networks(WSN),which provides a common time base for distributed systems, and it has greatsignificance for data fusion, power management, transmission scheduling, locationtracking, etc. Therefore, time synchronization has became one of hot topics to study. After deployment the Wireless Sensor Network, its life mostly depending on thebattery. In actual wireless sensor networks, energy is a scarce resource, since the nodesusually are very difficult to recover.Energy efficiency should be a priority element whendesigns a time synchronization protocol of wireless sensor network. This article aim tostudy the energy consumption time synchronization problems. The main work as below:Analyzes the research status about time synchronization of wireless sensor networktechnology at home and abroad and its basic theory.Compares the classical arithmetic andprovides a theoretical basis for further research.Using maximum likelihood estimation theory to provide a clock frequency offsetcompensation method. The exist sending to receiving end two-way time synchronizationmodel (such as TPSN algorithms, etc.)does not consider the problem of clock frequencyoffset compensation, and results lower synchronization accuracy. This paper modeled thenetwork delay as a index delay model, during the bi-directional exchange, We would takesamples of the first and the last Synchronous beacon group time stamp, to count the clockfrequency offset and the clock offset estimation,as to improve the accuracy of timesynchronization and its cycle extension.Considering to the interval problems in multiple time synchronization, the beaconnumber in the two-way synchronization and the selection of synchronous mode, we’d liketo propose a low-power Multi-hop Adaptive Time Synchronization algorithm (MATS).Thealgorithm designs a flexible mechanism to adjust the synchronization mode,Resynchroniz-ation cycle, and each pair of node synchronization beacon number, And gives a formulacorresponding quantization, at the same time on the node clock offset and frequency offsetestimate achieved with minimum energy loss to the completion of a long-term,network-wide time synchronization purposes.Analyzing the synchronization accuracy and energy consumption factors in theproposed MATS algorithm and presenting several major energy savingstrategies.Meanwhile, tested the synchronization error and energy consumption in MATSalgorithm and TPSN,the result showed MATS algorithm in synchronization accuracy and energy were better than TPSN’s.We should consider the practical applications when designa time synchronization protocol,as to this article,it is mainly for environmental monitoringapplications. The methods and ideas used in this paper also has certain significance forother low-power applications.
