Beginning from the21st century, the form of society development in China gradually entered a period of rapid transformation. With great pressure to survive, people have been facing numerous mental and emotional stress, property disputes etc. That brings up an urgent need:we need someone to talk to or we need some someone to listen to us. Therefore, the appearance of a free and open venting space with an impartial mediator becomes both imminent and welcomed.Mediation shows is the integration of talk shows and reality shows in the background of economic marketization in China. It appearance not only meet the emotional demands of people in current society but also adapt to the deeply background of consumer culture. Although mediation shows have just been developing for a very short time, the influences turn out widely. A series of phenomena have shown that the mediation craze is sweeping the entire industry, ranging from its blooming on almost every big TV station, people’s hot discussion on it in everyday life, to close concerns from professional circles even the whole TV program industry.However, besides this crazy trend, we should also see potential problems behind it. Those problems include highly resembling contents among mediation shows, excessive intrusion of private discourses into the public domain, blind pursuing for high audience ratings leading to the lack of media ethics, the authenticity of show contents not guaranteed, the violation of citizens’ privacy during the mediation etc. All these above require our people in the media industry should produce shows concerning closely with the social reality and the cultural traditions of China. Mediation shows should be people-oriented to meet the need of the audience instead of pursuing short-term high audience ratings. We should start from the long-term interest to produce cultural products of high quality which can provoke thoughts and enlighten wisdom to increase the audience loyalty and to arouse their participation enthusiasm.This paper firstly does case studies of several mediation shows through reflection to the current situations of their service function. Then through summarizing the reasons of the weakening of service function of current mediation shows, it tries to find out a solution and provide references to deep and systematic theories of solving this problem.
