Tilted fiber Bragg grating as a special structure of short-period fiber grating, in recentyears, its unique coupled model and optical properties in many areas, such as communicationand sensing, has been extensive concern and crucial applications. Coupled model of TFBGnot only can make it extremely sensitive for the parameters of external environment, but alsocan solve the long-standing temperature-stress cross sensitivity problem. The applications ofTFBG gradually get more attention in sensing field.Based on the basic structure of TFBG and its coupled mode theory, the paper discussessome vital parameters of TFBG, such as coupled-mode equations, coupling coefficient andrefractive index. Using OptiGrating optical simulation software research the key elementsaffecting the transmission spectra of TFBG, such as the grating angle, the length of grating, the grating period, the number of patterns, the core refractive index, the cladding refractiveindex, core radius and cladding radius, etc. This paper obtained the variation of the core modeand the cladding mode, and response characteristics of transmission spectrum. From the tiltedfiber grating practical point of view, simulation studies were related to their influencetransmission spectrum of the refractive index for the external environment. It obtainedmeasure the refractive index range of the external environment as well as the transmissionspectrum of refractive index modulation by the law of the external environment. TFBG on thepractical application has reference value and significance, laid the theoretical foundation forthe application of optical communication, optical sensing follow-up work and other fields, has high research value.
