The manufacturing industry can reflect a nation’s economic and technological strength,and the manufacturing of complex product stands for the top level of the manufacturingindustry. The mixed-flow production line is usually adopted as the manufacturing processes ofcomplex product contain complex process routes and possess numerous equipments. Theperformance, especially the reliability and balance degree, have a strong impact on theeffectiveness of complex production line. As a powerful technique for analyzing complexsystem, complex network has applied to many fields. A network model is proposed based onthe weighted directed graph. The reliability and balance analysis is conducted, and then aspecified optimization method is proposed. An aero production line case is introduced toverify the presented model.Firstly, by defining nodes as equipment in the production line, and the edges as therelationship between different processes, the weighted directed network model of complexproduct line is constructed, and the topological characters are analyzed afterwards.Secondly, the performance of complex product line is analyzed from the reliability andbalance perspectives. The stability is analyzed by Vertices-of-Removal, and the balanceperformance is demonstrated as load distribution. The loads of different equipmentdemonstrate a highly heterogeneous property. The small-world phenomenon and scale-freedistribution of strength result in the vulnerability and imbalance character of complex productline.Thirdly, aimed at solving the stability and balance problem, an approach of process routeoptimization is proposed to rebalance the process distribution in complex production line. Aspecified Genetic Algorithm is designed to solve this problem, and an aero-engine productionline is introduced to verify the presented model.The result provides a new perspective for the performance optimization of complexproduct line. By process routes optimization, the reliability and balance performance can beincreased significantly.
