In the rapid development of modern science and technology, information has become animportant strategic resource for social development. The encryption technology is a keytechnology to protect the security of information and data, and the stream cipher withmany excellent properties such as simplicity, small error diffusion, synchronization andhigh security, favored by the government and military sectors, and in a new generationof mobile communication showing its unique charm. The stream cipher has become themain stream encryption algorithm. Therefore, the research and design of stream cipheralgorithm is one of the hottest points in cryptography field. This paper first introduces the related concepts of stream cipher and cellularautomata, on the basis of studying existing encryption algorithm, a scalable clockcontrolled generator based on structural framework of cellular automata is constructed. The analysis and simulation results indicate that such clock-controlled generatorstructure has good scalability, the pseudo-random sequence generated has goodstatistical properties, and relative to the original stream cipher algorithm, this methodincreases the resistance to brute force attack. Then combine the chaotic sequence group generated by the pseudo randomnumbers with cellular automata to design a kind of stream generator. At the same time, encrypt image processing using the random sequences, the experimental results and theanalysis of various performance show that, the encryption algorithm has the followingfeatures:the encrypted image pixels have a statistical distribution uniform; the ciphertext and plaintext have smaller adjacent pixels;algorithm has strong anti-attack ability. Therefore, the structure has a certain value in the image secure communication.
