Gear mechanisms have many advantages, such as high transmission efficiency, stability and long life, so they have been widely used. Compared with machine vision technology, the existing contact gear measurement technology is usually not used to take in-situ measurements, because machine vision technology has the advantages of non-contact and environmental adaptability. So the research on machine vision technology of cylindrical gear involute measurement has obvious scientific significance and practical value.This paper studied the involute tooth profile error during the measurement of cylindrical gear involute using the image measurement technology. Firstly, the preprocessing of the structured light image was carried out and the structured light image features were analyzed. By comparing the existing method to extract light strip center, the Gaussian Curve Fitting method was chosen to extract light strip center. Secondly, on the basis of the existing camera calibration model, a new camera imaging model was set up, considering the lens distortion to calibrate camera parameters. By making tests, the effect of lens distortion on the calibration accuracy was analyzed. Then, the least squares fitting in the camera coordinate system was used to calibrate light plane calibration equation of the line structured light and the calibration precision would be analyzed by experiments. Finally, by building the gear involute measurement experiment platform, the involutes from experimental measurements and theoretical would be compared and the error analysis would be taken into account to verify the feasibility of the proposed method and then propose measures to improve the measurement accuracy.This paper studied vision measurement technology of the cylindrical gear involute error and related problems. The proposed method can be used for the detection of mechanical gear error in the manufacturing process of the involute gear, with has a good prospect.
