Intelligent electric wheelchair is a sort of application of mobile robot in the field ofthe health care, it has important social significance and academic significance. To face thesituation that growing aging population and increasing number of accidental injurydisability, to develop a functional and reliable intelligent electric wheelchair can help theelderly and people with disabilities to return to normal life. It has profound socialsignificance. The intelligent electric wheelchair combines artificial intelligence, computer,control science, information science disciplines, mechanical sciences, materials science,brings together today’s most cutting-edge technology, its in-depth study can not onlydeepen vertical depth disciplines, more importantly, it can get improvement at terms ofmulti-disciplinary integration, with great academic significance.In this project, design for wheelchairs from the perspective of modular. The wholesystem is divided into mechanical modules, HCI module, motion module, control module,they are relatively independent of each module between inseparable. Mechanical moduleis based on ordinary wheelchair, made through the installation of electronic equipment.HCI module contains a joystick, a LCD display and buttons, it can satisfy the needs ofusers. The core of the movement module is brushless DC hub motor. Through a controlscheme designed to enable smooth operation of the wheelchair. Master module is the soulof the whole system. Hosted core by the STC12C5410AD-32microcontroller to serve,with its own rich resources and perfect the external environment perception system, welldone on the master module body control tasks. GPS and GSM appeared in the role ofauxiliary function, to improve the safety factor and the degree of user convenience.Automatic obstacle avoidance function is based on context-aware systems, with thereinforcement learning control algorithm to achieve.Overall, the design covers the mechanical design, electronic circuit design, sensortechnology, software design, advanced control algorithms design and other aspects, theyconstitute a complete design of intelligent electric wheelchair. The research focuses onfour aspects: the human-computer interaction, the movement mechanism, the mastercontrol system and the automatic obstacle avoidance. Through indepth study of the system,it gets the desired effect.
