In the process of remaking nature, human beings use tools to distinguish themselves withanimals, and they also use machine to make the achievement that transcends their physicallimits. Along with the rapid development of modern hightech, the automation technology,which combines control theory, software and hardware platform such as mechanical electrical,becames the mainstream of today’s industrial development, and it makes us free from manytedious repetitive work. So, scientists continue the thorough research to production automation,and obtain many theoretical results. The ball plate system, which contains visual inspectiontechnology and control algorithm, has become the essential experimental platform of manyuniversitiesand researchinstitutes.The ball plate system based on visual inspection, is an experimental installation whichcontrol the ball trajectory by turning round the plate with the moter through the picture asfeedback information. The study to the visual ball plate system is not only contain the study ofautomatic control algorithm, motion control, image processing and machine vision, thetheoretical results can also be widely applied in industry, agriculture, aerospace and otherpractical engineering application. As a very important basic research projects in the automation,it can not only help students to better understand the control theory knowledge, but also lay asolidfoundation forsubsequentresearch.This paperstudies the useof visual inspection technology on the ball plate system based onthe visual ball plate system produced by Reinovo company: first of all, in the first chapter, thepapper expounds the research background and significance, summarizes the research status athome and abroad, and introduces the experiment platform; the second chapter of the pappercarefully discusses the visual inspection steps including gray processing, image sharpening,gray stretch, filtering, edge detection, image binarization, contour extraction and the ballpositioning, thus studies the influence of different image processing methods using on the ball plate system, in order to improve the processing speed of visual inspection, and finally decidedto use the maximum method for graying instead of the average method of the original system;the third chapter of the papper not only makes the mathematical model under the ideallycondition, but olso introduces the related concepts of LQR algorithm, pole assignmentalgorithm and fuzzy control algorithm, and study the respectiveuse of these algorithms in thesystem; the forth chapter of the papper proceeded the operation test of various control schemes,the running results show that it can improve the performance of the ball plate system bycombiningthemaximumvaluemethodof grayingwith fuzzycontrol mathod.
