Shape merging technique is using a certain algorithm to form the two ormore images together into a new image, making the merged image morereliable and complete than a single image. Shape merging is not a simplesuperposition between images, it can produce an image contains morevaluable new information. In recent years, shape merging has become a veryimportant and useful technique in the field of computer vision and imageprocessing. Shape merging technique is increasingly widely used in medicaldiagnostics, remote sensing image analysis, military reconnaissance and otherfields.Recently the research of correlated imaging technology and its applicationis a hot topic in academia, and has been widely concerned by researchscholars. Periodic diffraction correlated imaging is a new correlated imagingmechanism based on periodic diffraction effect, it can generate periodicintensity pattern through period array source, the generated intensity patternpossesses the property of point-to-point correlation. Therefore, the periodicdiffraction effect has the same physical mechanism with traditional correlatedimaging. But this mechanism can be realized without the use of beam-splitteror SLM, so the complexity and cost of the imaging system can be reducedsharply, this new mechanism has been widely used in image reconstructionand shanpe merging. In this paper, the theory of correlated imaging and its appalication isexplored. Via the concept of periodic diffraction correlated imaging, correlated imaging can be used into shape merging technique. Pseudo-thermallight generated periodic point source through periodic array board. Part of thelight beam illuminats the object; other part propagates directly in space, finally the intensity pattern of signale path and reference path is combined, and a merged image retrieved by coincidence measurement. In this paper, twomajor research areas: the theoretical analysis and experimental verification ofshape merging technique based on periodic diffraction correlated imaging, and the experimental verification of correlated imaging based on sunlightsource. The main work is as follows:1. The research of shape merging technique based on periodic diffractioncorrelated imaging. Traditional shape merging technique realized mainlydepending on the software algorithms. In this paper, the basic physical effectsof periodic diffraction is used, proposing a new shape merging solution basedon periodic diffraction correlated imaging, and demonstrating the therealization process of this solution through theoretical analysis andexperimental verification aspects. The verification result shows that in thissolution, the images of several objects located in different spatial positionscan be integrated into one image following certain rules.2. The research of correlated imaging based on sunlight source. On thebase of pseudo-thermal correlated imaging, an experimental scheme ofcorrelated imaging based on sunlight source is introduced in this paper. Thefeasibility of using sunlight as source is verified in detail from the point ofexperimrnt analysis. The result shows that this solution can realize correlatedimaging as well, which has a great promotion in the correlated imagingoutdoor experiments and engineering appalications. Finally through theanalysis of the experimental results, further investigate on how to improvethis solution is proposed.
