Otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) are soft sound energy generated by inner hair cells, while travels across the ossicular chain and eardrum, and can be measured at externalauditory canal. Since OAEs can physiologically reflect the various activities of cochleaand outer hair cells (OHCs), just like a “acoustic spies”, they provides a greatconvenience to research the related scientific questions of auditory system. Currently, the distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) is more sensitive in clinicalapplication of two kinds of OAEs, it can reflect the pathological changes of auditorysystem and provide the basis for early diagnosis of inner ear. But the great shortcomingsof the present OAE detection method, such as low efficiency, discrete-frequencydetected and low frequency resolution, hinder its development in clinic and theory ofhearing. In view of the problems above, a quick detection method of OAEs was put forwardand the detection system of OAEs was achieved in the paper. Meanwhile, the feasibilityof the proposed method was validated through the three contrast experiments. Relatedwork can be used as a kind of efficient tools to detect hearing loss, help doctorsdiagnose and treat hearing disease accurately, and provide reference for research methodof auditory theory. The main research work and innovation points are:①Proposed the swept-tone DPOAE detection method. This strategy takeswept-tone instead of the conventional pure tone, while the related experiment designand signal processing algorithm was provided. The new method can break through thebottleneck of swept-tone DPOAE measurement and successfully extract the highsignal-to-noise ratio of sweep DPOAEs from complicated background noise.②Using swept-tone DPOAE detection method in auditory theory’s research.Traditional method use pure tone to measure discrete frequencies due to the limited testtime, which result in the insufficient frequency resolution. The analysis of auditorytheory based on low resolutions of OAEs may not be comprehensive or reliable. In thispaper, swept-tone DPOAE detection method was used in related auditory theory’s study,it will help to develop a more comprehensive theory of hearing research.③Comprehensive analysis the performance of new method. This paper usevariety of experiment and statistical method to comprehensive examine the performance indicators of swept-tone DPOAE. Experimental data show that the result of swept-toneDPOAE is stable and reliable. Meanwhile, it can improve the frequency resolution ofOAEs effectively, reduce the measuring time and detect the frequency range of hearingloss. This related work provided experimental basis and effects for new methods’clinical application, and it also settle a reliable basis for the industrialization of the newmethods.
