Gynostemma is a perennial plant with soothe the nerves and blood pressure loweringeffect. It is called "not old longevity herb". The material components of Gynostemma fromdifferent areas are different because of natural factors as climate, soil, geology and so. In thepaper, characteristics information of Gynostemma were extracted by modern instrumentalanalysis techniques from Ping Li, Sichuan, Hunan, Hubei, Shandong, Guangxi, Anhui andFujian different angles, chemometric methods were used to analyze and establish a perfectmodel of the origin of Gynostemma,all of which provided a reliable identification technologyfor the protection geographical indications of products.The main contents and conclusions were:1. To established a method of identifying the origin of Gynostemma Ping Li based on nearinfrared spectroscopy, eight different origin Gynostemma were collected and constructednear-infrared spectral library. Identification methods of chemometric methods were used, forexample, principal component analysis, cluster analysis, discriminant analysis and but alsonear-infrared spectroscopy combined with the artificial neural network to establish the originrecognition model, the results show an accurate identification of the various models was100%.2. To establish an identification method based on HPLC fingerprint of the origin of PingliGynostemma, the flavonoids of Gynostemma from eight different origin were measured byHigh Performance Liquid Chromatography. The quality of Gynostemma from different originwas evaluated using similarity evaluation methods and principal component analysis andcluster analysis. the results show an accurate identification rate was100%. Therefore,’Pingli’Gynostemma can be identified accurately by the HPLC fingerprints combined withchemometrics methods.3. To establish an identification method by the difference between mineral elements fromeight Gynostemma origin, Gynostemma from eight different areas were collected, the contentof K, Ca, Na, Mg, Fe, Zn,Cu and Mn were analyzed with flame atomic absorptionspectrometry. The mineral elements were different as the impact of climatic environment andsoil and provided the basis for the identification the origin of Gynostemma, and the data wasanalyzed with principal component analysis, cluster analysis and discriminant analysis in Chemometrics method. The origin of Pingli recognition model was established, The resultsshowed that the recognized correctly of a variety of models reached100%.
