As the radio technology is blooming in a significant scale, the radio frequencyresources are getting more and more inadequate. With the radio application increase interms of category and quantity, the interference among freque ncy bands is emergingas an important factor that deteriorates the telecommunication quality. In order toprotect people’s safety and property, the radio regulation bureau should establishcorresponding electro-magnetic reserve area.This article analyzes the development and demand of railway radiocommunication system. Based on its special importance, the potential interference onthe railway radio communication system, especially the GSM-R system will bedescribed. Meanwhile, the calculation equation and method for quantifyingelectro-magnetic interference are provided. According to the railway operation safetyrequirement and corresponding electro-magnetic compatibility standard, the articlecalculate the electro-magnetic reserve area of railway GSM-R system and450MHzradio train dispatching communication system respectively. A real example ofelectro-magnetic reserve area calculation is listed. This provided theoretical proof forboth protection of railway electro-magnetic environment and approval of radio stationlocation along the railway.
