A Sociological Analysis Of “lanzhou Blue”

In the last three decades Lanzhou was trapped by serious air pollution largely because Lanzhou was one of many heavy industry cities established during the First-Five Plan period. Recent years the whole China faced with critical large-scale haze pollution, however, Lanzhou achieved significant triumph in air pollution control, “Lanzhou BLUE” not only recognized by domestic China government, but also won prize from the Paris Climate Conference in 2015.In this paper the author uses narrative approaches firstly to narrate the dynamic history of Lanzhou air pollution control; secondly, describes the development process of “Lanzhou BLUE”, and finally adopts structural equation model to analyze the structural causal relationship between air quality and industry; thus to reveal the real reason of “Lanzhou BLUE”.The analysis reveals that, “Lanzhou BLUE” mainly due to the decrease of the main atmospheric pollutants. The decline of industry(the ratio of industry output to Gross Domestic Product) and local government’s air pollution control policies together contribute a lot to the decrease of the main pollutants. However, the local government’s air pollution control policy is not the most important reason for this triumph; in fact the industrial decline is the real dominant factor for the “Lanzhou BLUE”. What’s more, “Lanzhou BLUE” is the integrated product of domestic political and economic change and globalization’s impact.
