Since 1960 s, the teaching philosophy of Autonomous Learning has become the trend of educational development. The new instructional model of “Student-centered,Teacher-led” is widely applied to English teaching, and the research of Autonomous Learning has been abundant. “Improving learning efficiency and autonomous learning ability” is one of the overall goals of the Ordinary High School English Curriculum Standards(2012), which comes up explicitly the basic tasks of teaching senior English reading is to develop their ability of English autonomous reading. Reading is the principal source of language input, and naturally, the reading comprehension becomes one of the important text types to verify the students’ English ability in English test paper.However, the study in Autonomous Learning from the English four basic skills’ aspect is comparatively weak, and lack of exploring the relationship between reading autonomy and reading achievement. This thesis is carried out under this background.The subject of this thesis is 114 students of two parallel classes from No. 3 Middle School of Ganzhou of Senior Grade One. This research is taking the Humanist Learning Theory, Cognitivism and Constructivism on basis, by combining the literature analysis,interviewing, questionnaire survey and teaching experiments, the thesis is trying to explore the relationship between the English reading autonomous learning ability and the English reading comprehension achievement. In order to find the common issues of English reading autonomous learning, the author took the interview of those students and teachers, and found the basis of design and adjustment of the questionnaire. The survey is investigating the current situation of the senior high school students’ autonomous learning ability and discovering the major factors of affecting the English reading autonomous learning ability. The teaching experiment is to check the changes of students’ reading comprehension achievement. The data of the empirical research is analyzed by SPSS17.0. The result of the study reveals that the students in the experimental group have obviously improved in reading comprehension achievement,which indicates that there is a positive correlation between students’ reading autonomous learning ability and reading comprehension achievement.
