Objective: Through the eight-week exercise intervention of aerobic exercise combined with resistance exercise to middle aged people from Yangpu District, we attempt to explore the effect of exercise to the physical health of middle aged people and help them to make appropriate exercise prescription to improve their health.. The present study provides reference for practical, feasible, safe and effective scheme for improving the physical health of middle-aged people.Method: 89 subjects(male 39, female 50), aged between 40 and 60 without enough exercises, were recruited from Yangpu District of Shanghai. An exercise program,including aerobic exercise and resistance exercise, lasting for eight weeks, was arranged on all of objects.13 Physical fitness tests were undertaken to all subjects,before and after the exercise intervention. Besides, no subjects was given diet restrictions.Result:(1)The body fat rate of two groups with the high frequency exercises was decreased obviously(P<0.05). But the body fat rate of one of female group with low frequency exercises was increased. The change of weight and BMI(Body Mass Index)of male was not obvious.(2)The change of physical quality of objects including grip strength, sit and reach, back force, vertical jump, and so on showed an upward trend..(3) The VO2max(maximal oxygen consumption) of all groups was improved as well, and the VO2 max of two groups with the high frequency exercises increased obviously(P<0.05).(4) The bone mineral density of two groups with the high frequency exercises also showed an upward trend, but other two groups with low frequency exercises were opposite.Conclusion: Exercise intervention contributes to the decrease of body fat rate,physical quality, bone mineral density and aerobic capacity. So the physical fitness will be increased significantly due to participating in long-term and regular aerobic combined with resistance exercises in middle aged people.
