A Textual Research On The Commentary Of The Olympic Table Tennis Match

Sports commentary is a description and narration by a particular language toward sports, physical exercise and sports games and all sports-related activities, it may contain both predicting a sports broadcast in the form of comments and contrasting and other functions. It has been four stages of development since its appearance. Halliday, linguistics as the representative of the system function believes that texture as the object of study of linguistics, the first is a collection of semantics, syntax and vocabulary speech constitutes a texture, and closely associated with a particular social context. Because sports commentary focuses on semantic, sports commentary function implementation is an important basis for existence, sports commentary dependent on exists of social context, therefore, sports commentary can explore more in-depth and essence of regularity from the perspective of Textual Studies.In this paper we explain the texture of six Olympic Games of table tennis. By using the method of literature, content analysis method and logical analysis method of various kinds of texture in the clause of transitivity analysis to explore the commentary texture of the ideational function, through modal analysis to explore the interpretation of interpersonal function, and the types of themes and thematic promotion mode of textual function.The study found that the use of material process and relational processes frequently happens in table tennis commentary texture, then the mental process and existential process followed, the verbal process and behavioral process are used less frequently.Interpersonal function is a function of social relations, through the expression of modality to achieve interpersonal interaction. In the interpretation of the table tennis match, the expression of the modality is mainly realized through the modal verbs and modal auxiliaries. Description texture expression "possibility" of the use of modal verbs most, pay attention to forecasting the result of the match; process texture expression modal verbs "duty" or "bias" will use more, pay attention to the analysis of the game; critical texture modality of diverse and rich in connotation, reflecting interpersonal function is most prominent.In the Theme-Rheme perspective of textual function, we find that in the table tennis match commentary, the main thematic types are Thematic Theme, Topic Theme, Thematic Theme& Topic Theme, Interpersonal Theme. The main patterns of thematic progression are the same Theme type, the same Rheme type and the split-Rheme type.This study was conducted from the perspective of textual analysis on sports commentary, as a preliminary study, it also has a lot of depth and improved area, and hope that the follow-up study will complement and enrich it.
