Nutrition has special significance for poor children aged 3-6, but there are few studies focused on the nutrition status that of poor children in the city. This study investigated the current nutrition status of the 3-6 years old children in urban minimum living guaranteed families, and researched its causes from children and parents, aiming to arouse public attention to these children’s nutrition problems, and provide recommendations for their nutrition improvement. This study assessed and analyzed more than 200 allowanced children’s nutrition status by collecting their height and weight data, comparing their nutrition status with non-allowanced children. Then analyzed these children and parents’questionnaires about nutrition knowledge and eating behavior, surveyed what these children ate at home, how they exercised, and how their parents’nutrition KAP were going on to find out the reason why these children have nutrition status like this.We found that children aged 3-6 in urban minimum living guaranteed families in Shanghai have both undernutrition and overnutrition problem, and overnutrition is more serious. While undernutrition is gradually improved, overnutrition becomes more and more serious. And allowanced children’s nutrition status is worse than non-allowanced children. We also found that the poor nutrition knowledge of children and parents, children’s inappropriate diet structure and bad eating habits such as picky eating, having no breakfast, eating snacks, and watching TV or playing iPad for a long time as well as insufficient exercise may contribute to it. So we should take comprehensive measures to improve these children’s nutrition status, including national nutrition policies, social support, kindergarten’s nutrition education and intervention as with parents’effort.
