| Attention to vulnerable groups is a symbol of social civilization and progress, adults with intellectual disabilities as a special vulnerable groups, the concern of this group is the proper meaning to build a harmonious society. Many agencies and organizations concerned with intellectual disabilities gradually set up to improve their quality of life, and ultimately to better integrate into the society. Many adults with intellectual disabilities face a problem of interpersonal communication difficulties, and it affects their rehabilitation, employment and eventually return to normal social life directly, thus improving interpersonal communication ability of adults with intellectual disabilities is very important.This paper is based on the review of previous studies, adapting the combined method of observation and interviews, making a study of the case work method intervention for the interpersonal communication of adults with intellectual disabilities under the guidance of the strengths perspective theory, social support theory and empowerment theory. Before the intervention, the author collects the clients’ information through interviews and finds that the interpersonal communication ability of adults with intellectual disabilities is generally low, mainly performance as not strong interpersonal communication desire, low emotional control and single communication way. The main cause of the problem is that the limited cognitive capacity, wrong parenting ideas of family, prejudice and social exclusion of the public and so on. In order to improve their interpersonal communication ability, the author conducts a case intervention, after the end of the intervention, according to the author’s observation and the related systems’ feedback information, we find the situation of the client have been significantly improved, indicating that the case intervention has a certain impact. But there are still some problems, the author discusses them and puts forward some suggestions, integrated using three methods of social work, providing policy support and using different disciplines’knowledge.This paper is divided into six chapters to elaborate the research question. The first chapter mainly introduces the background of the topic and the significance of the research. The second chapter is literature review, including three aspects, interpersonal communication, people with intellectual disabilities, interpersonal communication of adults with intellectual disabilities. The third chapter is the research design, including the definition of the concept, theoretical basis, research method and process. The fourth chapter elaborates the background of the case before the work involved in, including problems, causes and feasible analysis of intervention. The fifth chapter is the specific analysis of intervention, including seven areas, case presentation and analysis, take the case, estimation, planning, intervention, assessment, and termination. The last chapter is the conclusion and discussion part, the conclusion part affirms the effect of intervention, discussion section analyzes the deficiency during the intervention, and gives some feasible suggestions to improve interpersonal communication ability of adults with intellectual disabilities. |
