| Teacher feedback is a crucial component of teacher talk. As an important medium for interaction between teachers and students, it plays a very important role in the process of English teaching and learning. In English classrooms, appropriate teacher feedback is not only the main source of comprehensible input on the part of students, but also facilitates their language output through teacher-student interaction. While inappropriate teacher feedback may make teachers miss the opportunities to promote students’language improvement, dampen students’ enthusiasm for language learning and even make them lose heart gradually. Therefore, research on teacher feedback is of great significance for improving classroom teaching and learning. In addition, the new curriculum reform puts forward new requirements for teacher feedback in class as well. Unfortunately, in the real English teaching classrooms, especially in junior middle schools, there are a variety of problems existing in teacher feedback. Thus, in order to improve the quality of English teaching, we need to conduct an in-depth study on teacher feedback.This study systematically analyzed teacher feedback in junior middle school English classrooms by using three research methods such as classroom observation, questionnaire and interview. It is found that there exist some problems in the use of teacher feedback such as the lack of variety and comprehensibility, few opportunities for students’ output, inadequate waiting time and little systematic theory learning. So it can be seen that the implementation of teacher feedback is not optimistic, and it is impossible for teachers to take advantage of feedback fully and effectively to enhance the English classroom teaching.Therefore, to solve the existing problems, the researcher proposes taking positive countermeasures, such as avoiding using mechanical or duplicate feedback and enriching feedback forms. Also, teachers can adopt different feedback strategies flexibly according to students’ attainment level and different personalities. Besides, it is necessary to choose reasonable ways of correction and to create a supportive learning atmosphere to encourage students to express their opinions bravely and willingly in class. Finally, teachers should keep learning and improving themselves, conduct self-reflection on time and learn some corresponding theoretical knowledge..Both the analysis of the above existing problems and the study of the countermeasures will in some way help teachers improve their implementation of feedback in class so as to enhance the effectiveness of English classroom teaching and learning. |
