Curriculum standards are the basis of all aspects of the curriculum of the implementation. An organized and standardized curriculum for teaching and learning is an important aspect for educators to efficiently guide and evaluate the reading abilities of a certain student. This paper will elaborate on the overall goals and outcomes of first language education of the ability to read, and also the differences between each country in this area.The tradition and contemporary methods of training a student’s reading ability are both analyzed to offer an in depth view of the training objectives in the curriculum of reading ability teaching, and to draw a comparison between how different countries approach this task. Horizontally, for first language curriculum standards of different countries, the requirement of reading ability training proposed from two basic dimensions, which are competency performance of the main body of reading and the type of the object of reading. Vertically, one perspective of the development of reading ability, focuses mainly on three tiers of basic language knowledge, the depth of text interpretation and the difficulty of the reading text, so as to properly set the learning stages in order to optimize improvement of reading skills. With a combination of both aspects of reading skill training and development; a rich, three-dimensional reading skill training system will be discussed in this paper. This paper revolves around the integration of reading ability training into the standard curriculum. This paper will also elaborate on the potential problems and also proposals for any improvements that can be made.
