The study of existing teaching material is not enough to make students master all the knowledge. It must enrich students’ knowledge broaden students’ horizons and through the extracurricular reading. It’s important for all-round development of students to encourage them to read extensively in extracurricular time. It’s useful to solve the problem of learning burden and help cultivate the students’ interests and hobbies through the youth activity center.As educated institutions, they have diversified education models and diverse education activities. They provide a broad platform for improving middle school students’ extracurricular reading ability. They avoid heavy academic burden, but also develop the reading resources. Let students like extracurricular reading as far as possible in limited time,and form the good habit of extracurricular reading gradually, get a life-long ability of reading in the end.This paper includes three parts. It includes the existing problems and analysis in middle school students’ extracurricular reading, the realistic significance and advantage on youth activity center extracurricular reading guide and the strategy research to improve middle school students’ extracurricular reading skills. At last, the conclusion.The first part, we summarize the problems existing in the current students’ extracurricular reading through the questionnaire survey. It includes the negative extreme of high school students’ interest in extracurricular reading, the lack of extracurricular reading time and extracurricular reading guide. So we provide corresponding countermeasures based on these.The second part, we put forward practical significance of improving the middle school students’ extracurricular reading ability through the youth activity center at first. And then we show the advantage of youth activity center in extracurricular reading guide. It includes public,hardware, environment and social advantages. At last, we develop basic principles based on the advantage of activity center.The third part, we put forward the activity center method to raise the capacity of middle school students’ extracurricular reading through giving a full play to the superiority of the youth activity center. And then we provide reasonable strategy according to the method guidance. It includes the parent-child reading, simulation class, special lectures reading,expert lectures and so on.Finally, we review the whole research process, reach a decision and prospect.
