Writing, as one of the five basic skills of English language "listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation", is an ability of the output of language, which is also one of the essential tools of human communication, and belongs to the higher level language application form. In high school English learning, with the development and reform of the education, and the proposal of new curriculum standard and quality education, writing as one of the students’ comprehensive quality examination forms, draws more and more attention.For high school students, writing for most students is not a simple matter. Many English teachers in high schools lack systematic and effective method for the teaching of writing, remaining at the level of teaching structure and language points, that is, the early "Product approach". Since the effect of raising writing ability is not obvious, it makes a lot of students and teachers pretty upset.Through the study of "process-genre approach" in the application of English writing teaching in senior high school, the writer hopes to provide some help and advice for high school English teachers in the teaching of English writing.In the beginning, the author puts forward this research based on the present situation of high school English writing teaching. The author has unearthed some of the universal problems of the teaching of English writing in high school, believing that changes of this situation is highly necessary. Therefore, the author hopes that this study can provide some guidance and suggestions for high school English teachers.Firstly, predecessors of the various approaches in the past were reviewed, including product approach, process approach and genre approach. The article discusses the implementation process and the advantages and disadvantages of each approach. And on that basis introduces the process-genre approach, a comprehensive writing teaching model and explains its theory foundation, implementation procedures, as well as the advantages and disadvantages.In order to ensure the accuracy of this study, the author uses questionnaires and interviews to study the application of process-genre approach through an experiment and data analysis. Results tell us that process-genre approach can improve students’ English writing motivation and improve students’ writing ability in English.
