Since the implementation of the new curriculum,task-based approach has been widely used in the English teaching of China’s high school.But in practice, there is still no consensus on how to set up situations to accomplish the task.In English class, the approach is usually used in implementing the task of conversational listening and speaking.But it is rare to set up situational tasks in all directions to develop English learning.In this research, the situational task is set up to complete the task of listening, speaking, reading, writing and so on by setting various situations.Situational task approach can be used by many means.Under the guidance of teachers,students can learn through experience, perception, participation and cooperation and so on,and possess a positive attitude towards study in the process of participating in the activities, whose practical ability of language can thus be effectively improved. This research, which is based on the practice of English teaching in senior high school and combined with the educational theory of situational task, aims to explore the practice of this teaching mode.Through the elaboration of the definition, types, functions and the practical application of situational task,it has applied this concept to the English teaching of senior high school.Taking one middle school in the city as a base for empirical research,and combined with questionnaire surveys and interviews,the author has carried on the contrast experiment with two parallel classes of Grade Two,in order to explore the process and results of the implementing of situational task approach in the real teaching environment,and to prove the effectiveness of this teaching method in promoting students’ comprehensive ability in English learning.
