Qian Jibo who came from Wuxi, Jiangsu province was a prestigious expert of ancient Chinese civilization. Take education as front, he always took retrospective investigation on his own into Chinese learning and culture throughout his forty-year teaching career. In order to rejuvenate his motherland, he tried hard to extract new spirit from Chinese traditional culture, and ineffaceable contribution was made to Chinese education during the process. The outstanding talents cultivated by him were scattered all over China, which injected vigorous power into Chinese culture. The experiences and intelligence bequeathed by him not only constituted the most valuable chapter of education history, but also inspired the successors to explore and to create.Standing on the shoulders of precedent studies, this thesis intends to, from the perspective of education and relevant literature, abstract Qian Jibo’s national learning education idea which can offer some reference to the prevalent reconstruction of national learning education. During the process, document analysis and interdisciplinary methods were employed.The thesis consists of five chapters:The introduction demonstrated the causes of the present study, and reviewed the recent studies on Qian Jibo, identified the short-comings of the relevant studies so as to make up the area unexplored, additionally, crucial conception was defined in this paper as well.Chapter one discussed the intellectual origin that evolved into his educational ideas. This chapter is made up of three parts, namely, the Wuxi local culture characterized with emphasis on virtue and education, his genealogical deposition that was indifferent to fame and fortune and social education ideological trend.Chapter two analyzed Qian Jibo’s idea for Chinese classical studies as well as his education idea based on that. Qian Jibo’s definition that national learning is the awakening of national characteristic. And education that derived from national characteristic is bound to humanistic education, and it aimed at establishing modern education system by ways of national learning education in the Republic of China so as to revitalize Chinese civilization.Chapter three is the core part. It mainly deals with Qi Jibo’s practice on national learning education, Chinese language education, classics education and history education. The innovation of this paper is reflected by the insightful investigation into textbook compilation, the method and principle of curriculum design.Chapter four summarized the features of Qi Jibo’s national learning education idea. And its inspiration for contemporary world is also examined.This thesis extended the academic prospect of Qian Jibo studies, and furthermore, shed some light on the personal evolution experienced by traditional educators who were by Qian Jibo during period of social surge through case study, and obtain some insight which can provide some suggestion to the problems faced by national learning reconstruction.
