The core socialist values of China are prosperity, democracy, civility, harmony, freedom, equality, justice, the rule of law, patriotism, dedication, integrity and friendship.Since the Reform and Opening, the Cause of Socialism in China have been developing rapidly and have caught the worldwide attention.Meanwhile, influenced by the development of internal market economy and the external capitalist values, the development of China’s values appears to lag behind the development of economy, and some values go against the socialism and communism values. Senior school is a key period to form outlook on life and values, and that is why it is vital to apply values education to senior school students.Core socialist values are strong spiritual anchor of achieving the Chinese nation’s bright prospect on the road to revival. Hence cultivating senior school students’ core socialist values has realistic and strategic significance.School is the main battlefield to apply values education and classroom teaching is an important way to cultivate values.The geography teaching in senior school provides abundant materials for the core socialist values including patriotism, the sense of law, the manner of civility, the sense of prospect, democracy, equality, justice, freedom, integrity, friendship and so on. Therefore digging out the education materials in geography teaching and cultivating senior school students’core socialist values not only have great era significance, but also have further theoretical and practical significance.To apply the core socialist values education in senior school geography teaching, we have to obey the following principles:scientific principle, principle major development, principle of experience, principle of subjectivity and timely principle.Other ways should derive from geography knowledge, using different kinds of teaching methods to cultivate the core socialist values, osmosing the core socialist values to the students by group work on studying geography knowledge, spreading the core socialist values by multimedia equipment, cultivating the core socialist values by extracurricular practical activities and reading chef oeuvres and so on.This study includes five parts:the first part is introduction.The introduction part recounts the putting forward of the issue, the purpose of the study, the significance of the study, the current situation of the study and the methods of the study.The second part is the theoretical base of the study including the Marxism, the theory of education of all-round development and the geography curriculum and the teaching theory. The third part is the necessity of cultivating the core socialist values. This part explains the necessity of educating students the core socialist values in three aspects:the need of our country’s development, the current situation of senior students’core socialist values and senior school geography teachers cultivating students’ core socialist value.The fourth part is the excavating of the teaching materials of the core socialist values from the senior school geography teaching. Citing the geography textbook of Hunan Education Edition as an instance, this part analyses the relevant potential materials of the core socialist values. The fourth part is the core of this study, which is also an innovating point.The fifth part is the problems, which exist in cultivating the core socialist values in senior school geography teaching, and the countermeasures.
