In recent years, curriculum reform has become a new topic of education, English being an essential part of it. What problems need to be solved in English teaching? As we all know, the total score of English in the college entrance examination is 150, writing only 30 points. This is where the problem lies. English writing teaching has always been an important and difficult point in the process of English teaching. Writing is not only to provide students with knowledge, but also to help teachers know whether students have mastered. However, the traditional writing teaching method mainly focuses on students’ final writing product, ignoring the process. That is to say, teachers should pay more attention to the writing process and arouse their interest in English writing in order to build up their sense of fulfillment and self-confidence. Therefore, teachers need to take more effective measures during the process of English writing teaching, and improve the students’writing ability.This research is based on the process approach in English writing teaching, which is better to make students eager to write and fully involved in the writing activities. Students can not only realize their strengths and weaknesses, making much progress in writing, but as a result, build up self-confidence.Teachers sometimes complain that students do not speak English. The main reason is that even though students have mastered a large amount of vocabulary and grammar knowledge, they don’t know how to use. The key to gradually improving students’ comprehensive ability is to cultivate their ability of speaking and writing, because speaking and writing are complementary to each other. If students’oral English improves, they will have a desire to write;when their writing ability is excellent, they are more likely to express their thoughts in English.The author carries out the research on the students in Class 10 Grade 2, Qianjiang High School, Hubei Province by making use of the writing materials in the textbook and English Weekly. Then the author analyzes the results and draws a conclusion. In the thesis, the author first makes a summary about the problems in English writing teaching in high schools, from the aspect of both teacher and student. Then, in order to solve the problems above, the teaching method that put the combination of speaking and writing into process approach comes up; and the teaching process is shown through a writing teaching case. Finally, a conclusion is made. The results of this research show that the creative teaching method does excel the traditional ones, and owing to this, students’ writing ability has been enhanced.
