Since the 21st century, with the increasing of urbanization, the rapid growth of the global population creates enormous pressure to the society. While it has an important theoretical and practical significance master the spatial distribution of urban population. In the study, based on GIS technology, using the high-resolution combined with statistical data and investigation, established an urban land use classification which applies to the simulation of urban population density, got the spatial and property information of the building with the method of visual interpretation, and regarding the types of the buildings as a medium, according to the spatial displacement law of People’s Daily activities, the relationship model among urban population, time and types of land use is established, aiming to estimate urban population at daytime and nighttime and to analyze their spatial characteristics.Firstly, the methods to estimate spatial distribution of urban population density are summarized, including population density function, spatial interpolation and geographical correlation, with the analysis of the characteristics and the similarities and differences between those methods, resident area modeling and land use density modeling are combined to estimate the urban population in this study.Secondly, consider the type of land use within the city, and conjunction with the nature of the building, urban population distribution vehicle classification system is established. Based on the Resolution remote sensing image and POI, as well as the Baidu street view and sample survey, the spatial and attribute information of the buildings are gained. Finally, according to the spatial displacement law of People’s Daily activities, the relationship model among urban population, time and types of land use is established, aiming to estimate the urban population and the spatial distribution pattern at daytime and nighttime. There were significant differences in the spatial structure of the population between day and night in Jianye District, the spatial distribution characteristic at nighttime is the Subdistrict of Nanhu and Binhu get the highest population with the diminishing to the south. While the distribution of population during daytime is more dispersed and concentrated, characterized by "multiple center-multiple sub-center" scattered spatial structure.
