According to multiple intelligences theory put forward by Gardner, human intelligence can be divided into eight categories: Linguistic Intelligence, Logical-Mathematical, Intelligence Spatial Intelligence, Musical Intelligence, Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence, Interpersonal Intelligence, Intrapersonal Intelligence, and Naturalist Intelligence. With unique intelligence advantage and different learning styles, each student can be cultivated to be a talent in their distinctive ways. The function of the teacher is to help students to fully develop their intelligence advantages in order to cultivate competitive and creative talents for society.The traditional teaching methods in the Chinese senior high English class are monotonous and the activity patterns adopted by Chinese senior high English teachers are outdated. The English teachers lay too much emphasis on developing students’ Linguistic Intelligence while ignoring students’ overall development.Under such circumstances, it’s necessary to introduce multiple intelligences theory into senior high English class, and the practice will be based on the related theories of multiple intelligences theory. In this paper, the author uses two Senior 3 classes as research subjects. One class is taught by traditional teaching patterns and the other is guided by multiple intelligences theory. An analysis of the statistics mainly collected from the questionnaires, tests results and individual interviews reveals that traditional teaching methods runs counter to the education idea which highlights all-round development. The application of the multiple intelligences theory to senior high English class has improved students’ involvement in class and thus the effectiveness of English classroom teaching significantly. Besides, the paper has put forward some methods and strategies of how to apply multiple intelligences theory into senior high English teaching and how to construct the teaching patterns of efficient class to develop students’ different intelligences, to increase their learning interests, to reinforce their learning initiative and to improve their performance in English study.In a word, the students’ comprehensive language competence and the efficiency of English classroom teaching can be significantly improved if the multiple intelligences theory is introduced to the senior high English class.
