Due to the curriculum reform and new college entrance examination mechanism, the concept of history teaching is changing. Based on the results of teaching practice observation, the key differences between ordinary students who study in rural high schools and so-called top students are not caused by intelligence factors(ability of observation, memory, imagination and thinking as well as attention), but mainly determined by non-intelligence factors(five basic elements: interest, motivation, emotion, will and personality). In order to explore a new and effective way to improve the performance of “non gifted students”, this article explains the definition of non-intelligence factors and its function in history teaching as well as the cultivation of non-intelligence factors during history teaching through stimulating interest, cultivating motivations, evoking emotions, training will, and modifying personalities according to the school’s location, the western rural area in Yuhang District, and the difficult reality of inefficient teaching resources and limited student sources.
