English writing is an important part in Senior High School English teaching and learning, which accounts for a high mark in National Matriculation English Test (NMET). However, in English teaching, this key part is often ignored. In class, teachers tend to attach much importance to grammar and vocabulary. Grammar and vocabulary are often regarded as the basis of English learning and writing while writing is simply assigned to students as homework at weekends. There is no systematic writing training in class. As for the assessment of writing homework, teachers devote much time to correcting students’ grammar and diction mistakes without giving many effective comments, which has little effect on students ’writing progress and can’t arouse students’ interest.Besides, the simple assessment makes students lose heart in English writing. and In conclusion, without effective and systematic writing practice, it’s hard to improve students’ writing ability.To test the workability of writing teaching in the perspective of scaffolding, this paper carries out a corresponding empirical teaching. Firstly, the writer analyzes the advantage of this method in terms of constructivism, schema and cooperative theory. Secondly,100 students from two classes, with 50 in each, participate in the experiment. Two classes are respectively regarded as controlled class and experimental class. The scaffolding instruction model is used in the experimental class while the traditional teaching method is used to instruct the control group. Pre-test in the first week and post-test in four months are carried out to test their English writing ability. In the meantime, questionnaires are used to investigate the students’ attitude to their English writing and interest and confidence in English learning. With the experiment, the study achieves the expected goals, which not only reflects the feasibility and practicability of scaffolding instruction model in English writing teaching but also provides the future practice with constructive suggestions...
