English reading and writing are two important parts of English learning. Reading is the main approach of input while writing is the important form of the output. Therefore, English reading and writing should be combined closely in English teaching and learning. However, the traditional English class in Chinese junior middle school neglects the inner relationship between English reading and English writing, which cannot help to improve the efficiency of students’ comprehensive English reading and writing. Based on the current situation of the traditional separated English reading and writing teaching in junior middle school, the author conducts a teaching experiment with a RWCEI (reading-writing combined English instruction) model on the basis of the related English teaching theories. The thesis mainly discusses the following three questions:(1):Can the RWCEI in junior middle school help to improve students’ English reading and writing? (2):How does this teaching model influence students’ learning of English reading and writing in junior middle school? (3):To what extent can the RWCEI model be accepted by the junior middle school students? The result of the teaching experiment shows that firstly, compared with the traditional separated English reading and writing instruction, it is practical to improve students’ reading and writing ability in junior middle school by means of the RWCEI. Besides, this instruction model has different effects on different students with different English levels, of which the effect on students with medium English level of students is the most obvious one. Secondly, the RWCEI can help to promote junior middle school students’ interest and confidence in their English reading and writing, and it can help to improve their English reading and writing leaning habit. Thirdly, the RWCEI can help to promote students to understand the inner relationship of English reading and English writing. On the basis of these findings, the author concludes the necessity and the feasibility of the RWCEI in the EFL class in the junior middle school in China. Meanwhile, the author provides insight not only into Chinese EFL classroom but also into future study in the relevant field. |
