The relationship between Native American people and the mainstream society from resistance to the coexistence of each other is not achieved overnight. The feature of the Native American education policy is changing in circle; it revealed that the U.S. government pursuing forced assimilation to be equal in the era of change of orientation of value for weak ethnic groups.In this paper, the Native American education policy after the 1960 s as the research object, using the combination of literature analysis and research method to analyze the Native American education policy. In the process of policy evolution,summarize its characteristics and development of trend, hoping to find the Native Americans the value orientation of its education policy.This article is divided into seven parts altogether, the first part is introduction, it introduced the research background, significance, status quote of the article and methods; The second part mainly introduced the Native American education equality era policy background; The third part is in the affirmative era, the nine President of the United States issued a series of indigenous education policy act, administrative orders and reports, etc. The fourth part is regard to the implementation of Native American education policy in current situation. The fifth part mainly discussed the effect of Native American education policy. In one aspect, the Native American education policy had a positive effect in protecting Native language culture, managing tribe right to their own education; on the other hand, it also had some limitations. The sixth part and the seventh part summarized the characteristics of Native American education policy and development trend, at the same time, it puts forward and some significant minority education reference to our country.Practice is the sole criterion for testing truth. Under the condition of safeguarding national identity, the federal government respected for the diversity of indigenous culture and gave full Native Americans’ right of self-determination in the era of Post-affirmative. After extensive cooperation of all the people, indigenous people in education rights obtained the full autonomy, embodied the equality and inclusive of the Native American education policy. In some degree, it set a good example to ourcountry’s ethnic minority education policy. |
