Abstract/Summary:
Academic stress, as one of the significant stress for high school students, is an important factor that affect high school students’ mental health. In the face of different types and different levels of academic stress, high school students tend to choose different strategies. The influence factors of coping strategies are many kinds. Among them, the family support is an important influence factor, and plays an significant role for the maintenance of individual health of body and mind. High school students have not been adults, so the family support for them is very important. Because the family support can affect their cognitive, feelings of academic pressures and personal abilities, which affect their coping strategies. The study of the family support of high school students is how to influence them choose academic stress coping strategies. This is what the purpose of this study.The study mainly uses the interview method about high school students in the Caofeidian Xinjie village, Hebei province. Researcher continually guides them to memory and represent their experience of academic stress and coping strategies. And then try to restore the original feature of their education life deep into their inner world. Finally, using the family support explains the vivid stories.Based on the data analysis of the category, the types of the family support, the academic stress and the coping strategies of high school students,in Xinjie village, are induced.The family support can be divided into the dominant family support and the implicit family support. The family support mainly includes the material economic support, the academic intellectual support, the good parent-child relationship, the structure of the family, the appropriate academic expectations and so on. On the basis of the stress sources, the academic stress is divided into the real academic stress and the imaginative academic stress. The academic stress mainly includes the performance stress, the economic stress, the competition stress, the self-improvement stress, the interpersonal stress, the expectation stress and so on. Coping strategies can be divided into the positive coping strategies, and the negative coping strategies. Coping strategies mainly include taking the initiative to help, waiting for negative, retreating to escape, self-regulation, cognitive restructuring, blindly obey, indulgence, silently bear and so on. Based on the data analysis of the situation, the conclusions are as follows: in the family education, there is two-way game between family support and academic stress’ appeal. In the game, the high school students consistently seek equilibrium. And the equilibrium is implemented through the coping strategies in the face of the academic pressure. These coping strategies have the situational and diverse characteristics, and produce the double effects on the academic stress.
