Fostering students’ ability to understand the substance is oneof the main goals of chemistry teaching in high school. Thequestions which will be studied and solved in this thesis are asfollows:(1) The author investigates the present situation ofstudents’ ability of understanding inorganic substance in Grade2inhigh school and then analyzes problems existing in students’learning inorganic substance;(2) The author will explore theeffective strategies of fostering students ability of cognizinginorganic substance;(3) The author fosters students’ ability ofrecognizing inorganic substance. This study investigates the present situation on142students’ability of cognizing inorganic in Grade2from high school. The resultshows that there exist the following problems in students’ learninginorganic substances:(1) Students can not form the awareness ofmaterial classification;(2) The important physical and chemicalproperties can not be fully grasped by students;(3) The physicaland chemical properties of category similarity can not beconsolidated by students in time, after they learn;(4) Students cannot apply the previous learned knowledge to the learning of newknowledge and predict chemical properties of an unknown substance. Due to the problems existing in students’ learninginorganic substances, the author takes54students in Grade1inhigh school as research subjects to explore effective teachingmethods aiming at fostering students’ ability of cognizing inorganicsubstance. The results show that students’ ability of cognizinginorganic substance has been improved significantly. The main conclusion is as follows:(1) Based on concept ofelements, the author teaches students the content of materialclassification, which can help students form the concept ofclassification of substances;(2) The author guides students tolearn the knowledge of inorganic material by using classificationmethod, which is helpful for students to master the chemicalproperties of material, build the basic relationship between theproperties of elements and their compounds;(3) Constructing thesimilar model of similar chemical properties of substance from acategory can help students to master the chemical nature of similarmaterial;(4) The author’s concludes modes, which are similar inchemical properties of a substance in order to make students inferthe chemical properties of unknown physical by students’comparing and to improve students’ ability of exploring the materialand its nature.
