The Study Of The Correlation Between The Average Height And Competition Performance Of The World Excellent Women’s Volleyball Teams

Nowadays, as the athletes’ physical strength being improved constantly andcompetitions are increasingly fierce, women’s volleyball players are making progresstoward the direction of high,strength and skill virilism.There are many factorsinfluencing volleyball competition results, among these, net competition is consideredto be one of the most important factors, which is highly valued by women’s volleyballteams all over the world. Pursuing tall volleyball players has become a trend; evenheight becomes the primary standard of selection in many volleyballteams.However, we found that the average heights of the championship teamsin volleyball world contests (the Olympic Games, the World Championships, the WorldCups)is perfect, it seems to be contrary to today’s world volleyball pursuit. So, theblind pursuit of height is not recommended.So, how to understand the volleyballmatches scores are influenced by height scientifically and correctly? How to avoiderror of selecting volleyball athletes only depend on “height standard"? These are thepurposes of the thesis topic.This thesis uses the principles and methods of statistics, through a large number ofdata statistical analysis, obtains the best height interval of different positionsof female volleyball athletes, in order to offer advice on selection of the women’svolleyball athletes and determination of high level volleyball teams.Height is one ofthe vital factors affecting volleyball game scores, which reflects the bodystructure and level of growth and development of athletes, has become asymbol of volleyball game. Having a height advantage means having an initiative ofnet competition to a certain extent. Height as one of the important morphologicalcharacteristics of excellent volleyball athletes has been recognized by thecompetitive volleyball world and the sporting world. However, it does not mean heightis only factor and height advantage is the capital to success.Firstly, basedon statistical theory, this paper makes correlation analysis between the athletes’average heights of the top twelve countries or areas in the world women’s volleyballcompetitions (after2000) and the ranks in the matches, then analyzes and studies thefitting relationship between the height and the position of athletes, makes acomparison between the Chinese women’s volleyball team and the world’s strong volleyball countries in heights, at the same time compares the three different periodsvertically, compares and analyzes different position heights.Dealing with therelationship between different positions of heights and achievements,this paper usesdata fitting and SPSS analysis and draws the scattered points pictures of heights andpositions. With the fitting graphics and according to the forecast results,this passagegets the optimum interval of different position heights. In the data analysis stage,themain conclusion is as follows:Firstly,as time goes by,the basic heights of women’s volleyball athletes in theWorld Championships,World Cups and the Olympic Games is becoming higher andhigher,which cater to the development trend of the present volleyball players and it iseasy to get better ranking if one is high.Secondly,the average heights of the world women’s volleyball players haveincreased12.24cm from2002to2014,and the annual average growth rate is1.02cm.Chinese height ranks first in the world,the women’s volleyball teams of the worldcontinue to develop towards large-scale, the strength of net competition will beintensified.Thirdly, in terms of different position heights, the average height of Chinese teamhas reached world outstanding level, except the average height data of second settlersis slightly less than the world average level, the average heights of mainplayers,assistant attackers and second setters of these three position is higher than theaverage level of the world,especially the main players. The average height of189.8cmof Chinese team has obvious advantages than185.4cm of world average level.Fourthly, in the data analysis we can see that the competition achievements arerelevant to average height,but height is not the decisive factor,and this can be seenespecially from Japan,South Korea and other countries. Besides height,differentposition players age,height,weight,spike height, intercept height and Quetelet indexblock of different position players,which are considered as non technical indicators,arethe important indexes influencing competition achievements.Fifthly,although height is one important factor but not the decisive. There are bestintervals of different heights, pursuing heights blindly is wrong, it will influenceselecting outstanding players. With the use of integrated analysis software spss19.0, we obtain the optimal interval,the optimal interval of the main height is from186.120to190.793,the optimal interval of the font height is from186.073to188.300,the optimalinterval for the height of the second setter is from182.913to184.678, high optimalinterval of setter is from175.718to178.902. According to the best interval of womenvolleyball players in different positions, the higher the better is wrong. Team work ismore important than height in the volleyball game, so we should distribute the playersbased on the best interval, in order to achieve the best results.
