Range of distance education policy involved is not only related to various fields of education, but also closely related to the country’s economic, scientific, technical, etc. Development of China’s distance education can be divided into correspondence education, radio and television education and modern distance education in three stages. The various stages of education policy have different characteristics. Especially the new century, the party and government of China attach great importance to distance education. A series of policies that promote the development of distance education are issued, making distance education continue to grow along with economic and social processes and making important contributions to the overall development of education in China. By using a variety of research methods including literature research, quantitative analysis, theoretical analysis and policy analysis, this study systematically combed China’s distance education policies, laws and regulations over the years and comprehensively analyzed the development and evolution characteristics of distance education policies in China based on a large number of public statistical data. Meanwhile, this study analyzed the problem facing our distance education and provided countermeasures and suggestions for the future development of distance education policy on the basis of drawing on the experience of foreign relevant policies. And this study provided a more comprehensive perspective for understanding the nationwide development status of distance education policy, hoping to provide a reference for future development decisions of distance education in China.
