| In the era of globalization and informatization, people have to build up the idea of lifelong learning, which can make them get a better survival and development. As is known to all, the past teaching view, which only focused on knowledge of learning theory has already not adapted to the needs of the society now. The modern education theory regards that teachers and students are two basic elements of education activities. Students are educates and they are a principal body with independence, initiative and creativeness instead of accepting passively. The students’ subjective function should be brought into full play in all the education activities so as to carry out the social function of English teaching to its maximum limit and achieve the expected teaching effect. School education should aim to teach students to learn to study and raise them to have the independent learning ability of lifelong learning. The autonomous learning has fundamentally established the students’ dominant role, which emphasizes on cultivating students’ intense learning motivation and strong study interest. It emphasizes the students to learn creatively, namely, the integration of knowledge and process of knowledge construction, attaches great importance to the initiative and exploratory learning of the students, create a lively student-oriented learning situation.Based on the investigation and analysis of the status quo of students’ autonomous learning and the theory of autonomous learning,114 students from Guidian Middle School are chosen with the method of questionnaire survey on the English autonomous learning situation. The questions are divided into the following five specific dimensions: learners’ learning attitude, learning habits, using of English learning strategies, learning time and external conditions of autonomous learning. The questionnaire main answers the following three questions:(1) What’s the current status of English autonomous learning in Guidian Middle School? (2) What factors may affect students in English autonomous learning? (3) What measures can be taken to improve junior middle school students’ English autonomous learning situation? What’s more, the author compares among the situation of three grades students’autonomous learning,10 respondents of each grade are chosen from the questionnaire survey to be the objects of interview as a qualitative research. The research aims to find the main existing problems in the junior middle school students’English autonomous learning, that is, firstly, many middle school students’ English autonomous learning consciousness is not strong; secondly, the factors that affect students’ autonomous learning is students’ learning task is still very heavy because of the pressure of examination-oriented education. Although many middle school students will use some learning strategies, they still have difficulty in autonomous learning and they seldom select learning resources and activities to improve their English learning. So, in order to improve junior middle students’English autonomous learning, teachers should update their teaching ideas, strengthen the instruction of learning methods and learning strategies and cultivate students’autonomous learning consciousness. As students, they should master the methods of English autonomous learning, develop the good reading habits and strengthen the management of time.Based on the results of the survey, the author analyzes the cause of problems after collecting the data and concludes the factors to cultivate students’English autonomous learning. On the basis of the study, the author puts forward some suggestions for middle school English teaching:one is to renew teachers’ education ideas, improve the efficiency of classroom teaching and offer contemporary teaching knowledge to students; another is to strengthen the guidance of students’learning methods and learning strategies; and the last one is to cultivate students’autonomous learning consciousness, improve their ability of autonomous learning in order to promote the middle school students’English autonomous learning better. |
