During the two sessions held in 2015, representatives and members pay more attention to the inheritance and development of the intangible cultural heritage, and write down “paying more attention to protect intangible cultural heritage” into the government report. It has indicated that the nation attaches importance to promote and protect traditional culture. Hongquan, one of the branches of traditional martial art boxing, is mainly popular in the Shanxi province. It once had a broad mass base and was a common entertainment in folk. In 2008, Hongquan was included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage record. However, as the coming of the multicultural society, there is a negative influence on the inheritance and development of Hongquan. It is divorced form the call of “paying more attention to protect intangible cultural heritage” that was advocated by the nation. Nowadays, in this multicultural society, facing with the endangered situation, how to research and protect Honquan will be a problem which must be dealt with immediately.According to the situation, the study regards the inheritance and development of Hongquan in the universities in Shanxi province as the research object under the view of the intangible cultural heritage. And the study takes the methods of literatures, interviews, questionnaires, mathematical statistics and logical analysis to carry on further and comprehensive research. The results of study are following:(1)Teachers and students have various cognition degree to the intangible cultural heritage of Hongquan, and show an obvious disparity of perception that teachers’ cognition is higher than students’;(2)Now, there are six universities have Hongquan class by elective or compulsory in Shanxi, and have course outlines. But they have no textbooks. Teachers always teach students routines of Hongquan. Some schools even has introduced any advantageous measures in connection with their own situations;(3)Martial art teachers in universities in Shanxi is mainly young teachers whose average age is between 36 and 45. Most of them have a master’s degree or above, but professional teachers are only three people which is very deficient;(4)There are four major factors which restrict the inheritance and development of Hongquan in universities in Shanxi. Several suggestions are put forward for the problem of the inheritance and development of Hongquan:(1)The government should increase the effort to support Hongquan;(2)Hongquan needs to be included in the formal education system;(3)The teaching of Hongquan should adopt the measure that three forms coexist, be enriched heritage contents;(4)Inviting Hongquan inheritors to our universities who can carry on Honquan training;(5)Following the folk organization and founding research councils of Hongquan culture in universities;(6)Organizing experts compile Hongquan textbooks, drawing up campus evaluation mechanism of Hongquan ranking system.
