In English learning, vocabulary is one of the main obstacles for learners. In order to master English words, learners need to apply effective methods. However, the current vocabulary teaching method or learning method in high schools is not satisfactory.This thesis aims to study the possibility and efficiency of applying drama activities in vocabulary teaching in high schools based on the Drama in Education Theory(DIE). Through the questionnaire, class observation and interview, two questions are intended to be answered by the end of the research: Firstly, how is the current situation of using drama activities to teach vocabulary in high schools? Secondly, how should Drama in Education be applied in English vocabulary teaching in high schools? The study also discusses the principles of designing practical drama activities in vocabulary teaching, and applies some drama activities in English teaching practice. The teaching effect is evaluated after the application.The results of this research indicates that current vocabulary teaching methods need to be reformed and applying drama activities in vocabulary teaching is workable in the reform of English vocabulary teaching. Students are interested in and benefit from drama activities in vocabulary teaching. After the practical application of drama activities in vocabulary lessons, the effect is approved further. According to the interview, students favor this way of teaching vocabulary, and according to their performance in homework, vocabulary errors decreased. It is hoped that, the application of drama activities in vocabulary teaching will burst into bloom in the garden of English vocabulary in the near future.
