Counselor’s work is an important part of the ideological and political education in colleges and universities.The effectiveness of counselor’s work is critical to the success or not of the ideological and political education in colleges and universities.Only the counselors who is work in the first line of the ideological and political education in colleges and universities know their position and roles clearly,can they make the correct behavior under the roles, which is good for achieving the goal of the ideological and political education.Paulo Freire not only explains the basic concepts, elements, quality of dialogue,but also expresses the roles of teacher.There are many similarities between the counselor’s work with students and Freire’s dialogue educational theory, whether in the training objectives or working methods. Therefore, this paper which studies the orientation and development of counselor’s roles from the perspective of Freire’s dialogue theory,aims to provide some reference for the counselor’s work and ideological and political educational activities of our country’s colleges and universities.This paper is divided into three parts:The first part describes Freire’s dialogue educational theory. This section analyzes the meaning, purpose, quality, key of Freire’s dialogue theory,summarizes five teacher’s roles in the dialogue educational theory:educator, instructor, learner, coordinator,and listener.and the specific requirements of each role in the dialogue theory.Finally, put forward the idea of building to the counselor in the colleges and universities according to the requirements of teachers’ roles in Freire’s dialogue theory:guider of ideological and political education, mentor of students’work, advancing learner, coordinator of ideological differences, listener of students’discourse.The second part mainly analysis the current situation of counselors’ role play in the colleges and universities from perspective of Freire’s the dialogue theory.The questionnaire’ design is according to the related elaboration of Freire’s dialogue theory from previous section, and investigated the counselors of four universities in Anhui and Hubei provinces. The survey result analyzes mainly from cognitive and behavioral, including counselor’s dialogue awareness, qualities awareness and fulfillment, cognitive and practices of five roles under the dialogue theory.The result shows that there is some deviation of counselor on teacher’s cognition of qualities and roles,which led to related problems in the roles’qualities. and practice.The third part analyzes the Counselors’roles development with the Freire’s dialogue theory.This part mainly raises some expectations for counselors’roles development on cognitive and behavioral, which combines Freire’s dialogue theory and current problems of counselor’s role play.One hand, to counselor’s consciousness of dialogue,qualities and orientation of roles by providing relevant job training, skills competition and meeting of counselors’ experience exchange and other ways.On the other hand, to improve their work by understanding students’interest deeply, the future work of going into students’ life world, building democratic relationship between teachers and students, strengthening self-reflection, and broadening ways of self-taught.
