With the development of the times and the deepening of the new curriculum reform of middle school geography in China, more and more scholars begin to pay close attention to and research on geography textbooks for senior high school. But in the face of the ability emphasizing teaching materials and the course objectives, the question how to use the high school geography new teaching materials effectively needs researchers’ and geography teachers’ continuously exploration. Through questionnaire and classroom video recording the two methods, the paper makes a comparative analysis between the experienced teachers and interns, in order to find out the differences on the teaching materials’ using strategy between the two different types of teachers and to develop suggestions for interns of using the PEP compulsory chapter second-- 1 of “the atmosphere on earth”. Through a comparative study in three aspects: the choice, the organization and the processing of the teaching materials, the author finds that there are many differences between interns and the experienced teachers. The main differences exist in the following aspects:(1)In the choice of teaching materials: The majority of the experienced teachers’ teaching materials selection is not confined to textbooks, and the more experienced the teachers are, the more attention is paid to the systematic knowledge. On the other side, the less experienced teachers could make full use of the teaching materials and supplement the content of emotional sublimation after class. Those teachers would pay more attention to achieve the three-dimensional target. But the ability of interns for searching teaching materials should be improved, because interns would cut some parts that they can not complete in class, some activities and readings, for example.(2)In the organization of teaching materials: Experienced teachers could be more flexible when organizing the teaching materials, and some experienced teachers would pay more attention to learning knowledge "from the known to the unknown”, and they would life more local cases in their classes, while some other experienced teachers would pay more attention to learning knowledge "from concrete to abstract". There are many specific pictures and tables to help students analyze and interpret the abstract contents in these teachers’ classes. However, interns are very dependent on teaching materials in organizing the teaching contents, and it is very hard that the knowledge is not connected very well in their classes.(3)In the processing of the teaching materials: the experienced teachers use figure and table for teaching more often. They deal with the contents of teaching materials flexibly, with many interactions between teachers and students. But in interns’ classes, there are many verbal explanations, and there are no interaction between teachers and students. Their teaching effects are worse than the former in class.
