Research On The Curriculum Design In American Community College And Its Inspirations

American community college, as an important component of higher education in the U.S, plays an important role in the region and the nation’s economy ant business.It is the result of the democratization and popularization of higher education in the United States. In the intense competition of higher education, it constantly seeks development opportunities and strengthen the advantages to form the characteristic education model. The advantages, such as flexibility, openness, multi-level, diversification, socialization and the pragmatic, etc, are studied and referred by many countries.The curriculum is the core part of the American community college and is also the main embodiment of its characteristics. The curriculum of the American community college,with a community service for the purpose, based on the education group, the diversification and the idea of keeping pace with the times, around the five functions of the American community college, that is, transfer education of the college or the university, professional or final education, general education, continuing education and social service, presents the following characteristics:paying attention to the integration of academic courses and professional courses; paying attention to the unity of the flexibility and practicability; paying attention to the diversification and standardization of the curriculum.The article aims to explore the characteristics of the American community college courses by interpreting its definition and analyzing the present situation and to provide certain help for our curriculum reform of the adult education through referring to its advantages of the course integration, guide and implementation. The article is divided into three parts:The first part:stating the definition and connotation of the American community college and curriculum and summarizing the development stages of the American community college, the function of each stage and the development stages of the curriculum. The second part:from the following aspects, giving a detailed analysis on the curriculum of the American community college; classifying and inventorying the courses of the American community college; summarizing the characteristics and advantages of the courses of the American community college; paying attention to the new tendency of the curriculum, that is, the integration with MOOC.The third part:discussing the enlightenment on the adult education curriculum reform in our country.At present, the development of the adult education in our country is in the critical period. Therefore, the successful experience of the American community college will have a positive effect on the adult education in our country.
