Now many primary schools set up English courses, but the present situation is not satisfactory. The new curriculum standard puts forward that the aim of setting up the primary school English courses is to arouse the students’ interest in learning English, but some children are not interested in English at present.This study attempts to explore the fairy tale teaching method in primary English teaching. This study is an experimental research and it studies on the effectiveness of whether the fairy tale teaching method can arouse the primary school students’ interest in learning English and whether it can improve the written and oral English ability of the primary students. In the research, 28 primary students in Grade six are chosen to be the subjects. There are 14 students in the experimental class and 14 students in the control class. The instruments used in the research are questionnaire, the interview and the test. The questionnaire and the interview are used to find out whether there is difference of the experimental class and the control class before and after the experiment on primary students’ interest in learning English and the written and oral English ability. The test used by the researcher is aimed to compare the data to find out whether there is significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. In the experimental class, the fairy tale teaching method is applied. In the control class, the traditional teaching method as they used before is applied. The experiment lasts three months in all. After the experiment, SPSS13.0 is used to process the data in this research.From the analysis of the questionnaires, tests and the interview, we can find out that the fairy tale teaching method has the primary students attracted and arouses their enthusiasm for English learning and the fairy-tale teaching method also has effect on primary students’ written and oral English ability.In view of the advantage of the fairy tale teaching method that the study has found, the researcher suggests that the English teachers in primary school adopt the fairy tale teaching method in their teaching and improve the teaching effect.Key words: fairy tales fairy tale teaching method interest written English...
