| Psychosocial competence is a state of mind that can help individuals maintain good behavior.The one who holds this ability can always calmly handle every challenge in life and often show positive attitude in the interaction with others and fast adaptation to the social environment. Psychosocial competence is composed of lots of abilities, such as capabilities of individual self-feeling, emotional control, sincere exchanges with others, problem-solving skills and capabilities to acquire and maintain social support. While junior high school students are in the critical period of psychological and physiological development and personality improvement, they experienced significant changes in physical, psychological, and environmental aspects, facing pressure from all sides.Good psychosocial competence is able to help middle school students successfully complete the transition from childhood to youth, to effectively respond pressure from physiology, psychology, and environment, and to positively face psychological and social changes, thereby to let them healthily grow up.Since junior high school students facing these problems, the improvement and enhancement of psychosocial competence is very important to help them smoothly pass from one stage to another and to quickly adapt to the environment around them. The purpose of this study is to design an effective improving plan for the psychological characteristics of junior high school students in general through group work, which is aimed at improving their ability of self-awareness, emotional control, and communication with people,as well as help them strengthen problem solving skills and learn to seek social support through practice implement.This study performed in a middle school in Fuzhou selecting 30 subjects, was divided into intervention group and control group,according several criteria including Self-Esteem Scale, General Self-Efficacy Scale, Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, Depression and Coping Scale of Junior high, as well as the evaluation result of Social Support. The results showed that:the emotional state of the intervention group members had been significantly improved,anxiety and depression were decreased significantly. Group members had became more positive in handling problems and they performed more support to others indicated in the social support system. However,compared with the pre-intervention,there was no big difference for the members of the controlling group. According to the study in this paper, it showed that eight-week group activities had performed extremely significance in promoting students’ psychosocial competence. |
