In July 2010, our government issued the "Education Medium and Long-term Reform and Development Plan (2010-2020)", this programmatic document indicates the direction for China’s decades of educational reform. In term of high school education, it puts forward to accelerating the universal of high school education, improving the quality of all high school students, and promoting diversified development of high school. With the development of economy, China has gradually realized nine-year compulsory education. So, exploring how to reform high school education is imperative.In the current context of globalization, the United States government and some educational reform organization has been dedicated to the exploration of high school education reform and development, and the policy of promoting reform and development can provide reference and inspiration for our country. Therefore, This study began from the current American high school education reform policies, programs, and then explore around the three main direction of high school education reform. By collecting legal documents on US policy, reform research reports, policy review and other related documents, it reveals characteristics of American high school education reform. Specifically, this paper embraced around three issues:how to encourage students to prepare for the university? how to prepare for future careers?how to promote the diversification of school development.By answering these questions, it turns out that the American high school education reform always insist the concept of the unity of equity and excellence. Federal and state persist in accountability and coorperation to jointly promote the development of high school education. It not only focus on students’individualized development, but also strive to encourage students to be successful in the future of higher education or a career. Through supporting educational innovation also greatly promoted the link between school education and era, society development. Their reform experience also provides a good reference and enlightenment for our high school education.
