With the development of quality education, English teaching is facing great chance and challenge. We have to change and improve our English teaching in high school in order to make English teaching meet the requirement of quality education. As for English teaching in senior high school, English reading is greatly important for both students and teachers. Firstly, the proportion of reading comprehension in college entrance examination has been rising gradually. Besides, whether students grasp English well can be known through students’ reading ability which is one of the important parts of English communicative competence. So reading is extremely important in English teaching in senior high school. However, although teachers know the importance of reading and have spent much time on it, students get little. For a long time, most teachers thought that as long as students can remember enough vocabularies and know how to analyze sentences and grammar, their reading and comprehension ability will be improved. Because of that, in English reading class, they spent most time on vocabulary, grammar and the analysis of difficult and key sentences, and paid less attention on cultivating students’ reading strategies and reading interest.The research aims to improve English reading classroom teaching design of senior high school both in theory and in practice. The introduction tells us the background, significance and purpose of English reading classroom teaching design in senior high school. Besides, the researcher mainly talks about the present study on the classroom teaching design and English reading teaching both in China and in other countries, and then it is also about the theoretical basis including system theory, learning theory, teaching theory and schema theory. After that, it focuses on the basic concepts of English reading classroom teaching design in senior high school, in which the principles and elements are introduced and analyzed in detail. During the specific research, the researcher puts forward and has solved the problems “why do teachers make English classroom teaching design” and “how do English teachers make good reading classroom teaching design”. The researcher chooses two English teachers from Shizhu Senior High School of Chongqing and takes their reading classroom teaching designs as study cases. After that, the researcher compares and then analyzes them based on the six main elements of English reading classroom teaching design, the principles and its related theories. Finally, based on the theories and researches above, the researcher also makes a classroom teaching design.Because of this research, the researcher thinks that in order to improve the quality of English reading classroom teaching, firstly teachers should value and learn the theories related to reading classroom teaching design. Secondly teachers should follow the six main principles such as systematicness, meeting the needs of all students. Finally the paper also points out some limitations, shortcomings and future research direction.
