High School education is a kind of deepening education following elementary education, which is the secondary education for students to prepare for employment or to receive higher education after graduation from high school, is a key hub associatiated between the career development after high school and elementary education.Therefore, the result of students from high schooling plays a crucial role on the direction initially formed to whole life development and directly impacts on employment rate or rate of receiving education of a country or a region. On the other hand, the curriculum setting is the core content of the basic education reform over the world, which reasonable directly determines the success or the failure of the education reform. Since the founding of state, our country carried on the basic education reform in different periods, especially the continuous exploration in the problems of high school curriculum setting, has made great achievements on the whole.The present situation of development from curriculum setting of high school at the present stage, however, still affiliates many shortcomings and defects restricting the development of our basic education. In Canada, especially Ontario closely connects high school curriculum to elementary education and higher education or employment work together, so that students can give full play to themselves in the high school curriculum learning and to be the future talents delievered to the whole of Canada and the world. Investigating its reasons, the adjustment towards the curriculum structure of Ontario government and forming high school curriculum policy as well as a reasonable model is based on the extensive collection of suggestions from educational scholars, teachers and students’ learning expectation,which provides a reliable guarantee for the development of basic education in the whole of Ontario.At present, high school curriculum in Ontario and "supermarket" courses of America have many similarities, it experienced exploration and improvement of different periods in the past more than a century-- from the original "single conservative" to "open" transformation. In this paper, the evolution of the development of high school curriculum in Ontario is separated in three aspects:the high school curriculum reform based on the the credit system, the adjustment and reflection of high school curriculum reform as well as its deepening. This paper analyses the background and the foundation of high school curriculum setting according to the impact from the tide of new curriculum reform, the situation of social development and the only way to take strengthing comprehensive national power, the raise goal of high school education and the development needs of the senior high school students, high school curriculum problems existing at present, and summarizes the basic concept of the high school curriculum and its main goals, course content and structure. In order to get further understanding towards the specific situation of curriculum setting, this paper selected two public high schools in the top of the province as the case study, which are London Central High School and Unionville High School, and summarizes the characteristics of senior high school curriculum in three aspects:the curriculum goals, structure and content.Since 2004, the curriculum reform of basic education, has obtained the certain achievement in the human-oriented aspects of the college entrance examination system and improving the curriculum system of high schools in China. But the convergence among the new curriculums for each grade and the simplification problem of curriculum implementation has still not been fundamentally solved. Although there are great differences between the basic national conditions of China and Canada, the curriculum development process and the basic education curriculum especially high school are also attaches great importance to the government at the end of the last century in Ontario Province, whose set an example for our country in improving the efficiency of education and promoting students’learning enthusiasm. Through the research on the high school curriculum, this paper summarizes the basic experience of reforming the high school curriculum, including attaching great importance to the transformation of curriculum system of high school curriculum, collecting advisory suggestions from curriculum experts, decentralization power of curriculum setting and the effective integration between general education and occupation education etc.. According to the actual situation of our school curriculum setting, this paper draws the following enlightenments from the advantages of Ontario:adhering to the student-oriented philosophy of education, strengtheing curriculum auxiliary system to diversfication, focusing on integrating curriculum content effectively and giving full play to the role of curriculum experts.
