The English grammar teaching is a necessary part in junior high school English teaching curriculum. But for a long time, the grammar teaching has been in a controversial situation. Should grammar be taught in class formally? What is the percentage of grammar teaching time in one English class in class formally? How to deal with the language accuracy and the language fluency? Where is the balance point of the accuracy and the fluency? These questions are surrounding the English teachers all the time.As the current English grammar teaching situation in junior high school, this thesis is about how to integrate the two teaching methods together in order to make the Chinese students have a good grasp of the English grammar. The author chose two classes of Grade Eight in Anshan as the Experiment Class and the Control Class to make the experiment of grammar teaching. The whole experiment lasted for the whole term from September to December in 2013. The subjects involved 60 students of Grade Eight at the junior high school in Anshan. The Experiment Class was prepared for the integration of explicit teaching and implicit teaching method and the Control Class was prepared for the traditional explicit grammar teaching method to learn the grammar item of simple past tense. At the beginning of the experiment, there was a pre-test for both classes and at the end of the experiment there were a post-test and a questionnaire for these two classes.The data was analysis by the software of SPSS 19.0. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the Experiment Class and the Control Class. By analyzing the results of questionnaire, it could be seen that students in the Experiment Class had much more interest in learning English grammar. So the thesis showed that the integration of explicit grammar teaching and implicit grammar teaching method has advantage over the traditional explicit grammar teaching. The better way for teaching grammar is to integrate both the explicit teaching and the implicit teaching method together. It has a significant influence for the efficiency of English learning and teaching.
