Vocabulary plays a critical role in the entire process of language learning and the ultimate goal of vocabulary learning is to master adequate vocabulary in order to acquire the language which can be used to proficiently communicate with others. However, facing a large quantity of vocabulary and the complex knowledge of vocabulary, many students in senior high school are confused by such questions as how to learn vocabulary actively rather than mechanically and repeatedly, how to enlarge the vocabulary and how to use the acquired vocabulary effectively and contextually appropriately. In this thesis, those kinds of questions will be solved with the help of the vocabulary learning strategies.Based on two questionnaires and two vocabulary tests done before and after the experiment in two similar senior two classes, the results tell that, first of all, the students tend to apply certain vocabulary learning strategies consciously or unconsciously, and their scores of vocabulary exercise is almost the same. And secondly, in the experiment class, after the conscious teaching and learning of the vocabulary learning strategies, the application of vocabulary learning strategies is more common than before, and students could apply the most appropriate vocabulary learning strategy in the learning process or combine various vocabulary learning strategies together to achieve the learning ambition in the process.To conclude the countermeasures of the vocabulary learning strategies, there are two main parts. One is for teachers, which includes the transformation of the concept of teachers, the systematic teaching of the vocabulary learning strategies, the stimulation of the learning motivation of the students. The other is for students, which covers the ways of the training of the metacognitive strategies, the ways of the training of the cognitive strategies and the ways of the training of the social-affective strategies, which are consistent with the questionnaires.
